Choose one character from the novel and analyze their behavior and motivation. How did they act? Why did they act that way? Write at least one paragraph (7-10) sentences and then you must comment on TWO of your classmates' posts.
In the story Sara is very responsible for her daughter Kate. She has never have up on her and has always kept trying for her to get better. She seems to put a lot of attention on Kate rather than her other children. She doesn't realize it until Ana decides to go to a lawyer for the rights of her body. Sara has been going through a lot and doesn't know how to handle things. She is trying her best to be strong throughout the book.
Sara has been focusing all of her attention on Kate and its just making things worse in the family because she isn't showing her other children that she cares.
Brian has been pretty calm through this whole thing. He has been able to keep himself together for his family. I think he acted so calmly because he loves both of his daughters and he knows how to look at both sides of the situation. His motivation this entire time has been his family. He has seen that his family is falling apart and he does everything he can to keep it together. He is a family man and always has been. His behavior through all of this has been helpful and also helped keep everything under control.
Ever since Kate was diagnosed with cancer, Jesse has been in her shadow. Brian and Sara promised to do things with him but then something would happen to Kate and it wouldn't happen. He began to just give up and shut them out. He wanted attention but didn't know the appropriate way of getting it. Instead, he stole, he caught stuff on fire, he smoked, and he drank. He never really showed that he cared about Kate, but deep down it was killing him. He has just been holding everything in.
Sara's motivation is to save Kate's life. She's kind of the bad person in this book. Because she pushes Anna and abandons Jesse all for Kate's well being. She's crazy. But a good mother, if she wasn't she wouldn't try so hard to save Kate's life. She's very driven but she's really caught up with Kate.

ReplyDeleteIt's true, Sara and Brian should of been there for Jesse even when there was problems with Kate. You just can't put your child off to the side.

ReplyDeleteI think it's very sad that he basically had to go through this on his own. If only his parents would just try to understand and talk to him.
