This book, while dealing with a very sensitive and heartbreaking time in our history, also tells of the kindness of human spirit and the hope for things to be better. Have you seen either yet? Describe and explain why you would/would not like to have lived in the time or place of the story.
I would not like to live during this time because they were not educated like I am and I had to be careful of what I said and did.
ReplyDeleteHans Hubermann reads the book to his girl and understands why she wants the book because it reminds her of her brother. This is an example of the kindness of the heart and hoping for better things by providing her the knowledge of reading. I feel like I wouldn't want to live in this time due to all of the horrid situations these people were put in. However, I feel like the bonds between people were stronger then because all they had was each other.
ReplyDeleteI would have liked to live in the past, where people were less aware of what was going on in the world. But I don't know if I would actually like living in the past because it was uncivilized. We've made so many technological and other economical advances, that going back in time would be like going from a developed country to a developing country.
ReplyDeleteThey really haven't covered how badly the war has effected them. The Hubermann family seems to be doing alright considering they were poor before. Papa really accepts Liesel as she is and tries to help her become a better person. I think it wouldn't be so bad to live in this time and place, as long as everything remained as it is at this point in the story. As we all know, it will not remain like that forever.
ReplyDeleteI would have not enjoyed living during this time. The reason being, is all the death that would have been happening around me. Along with that education and respect for women was yet to be as high as it is today. That would not have been okay with me back then!
ReplyDeleteI would not like to live in the past at all. Living in the past where no one really had any money at all. They worked really hard to make a living for their family. I would not like to live where there was a war going on between Hitler and everyone he said was against Germany.
ReplyDeleteI would not like to live during this time period during the war. The Hubermann family is really poor but they seem to be making the best of it. Her mother doesn't want her to learn how to read. Her mother just wants her to do housework and help around. The family doesn't have a lot but they're making the best of it.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't like to live during this time period. Mostly because of the war and Id have to deal with being poor. I would want to be able to expand my knowledge rather than just clean.
