Initial Thoughts...

After our first reading, what are your initial thoughts about the book, Idgie, Mrs. Cleo Threadgoode, and Mrs. Couch?  You must write at least five well thought out sentences.  Remember: English class!  Must be grammatically sound!

  1. I think how the story jumps between two time periods, with different themes and stories is pretty interesting. Other than that, I don't know enough about the characters to write about.

  2. I don't think I will like this book very much because I don't like the way it is written. I'm not too sure what is going on or who anyone is yet. I can't decide who I like or don't like because I'm having a hard time keeping interest already. I'm hoping that something will happen to catch my interest. I don't typically like books like this one, but I will stay open-minded for the time being.

  3. I think that Idie was a very difficult and stubborn child growing up.She had a mind of her own and got way with doing what she wanted. I think that Mrs. Threadgoode is very outspoken. She could talk on and on all day if she could. I think that Mrs. Couch was getting tired of the lady talking to her.

  4. I think that this book could be interesting. Even though we have only read a few pages, just knowing about the story makes me eager to read more about the book. It seems to jump from person to person a little too quickly, which is hard to get used to. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to jumping around in books, but the challenge seems fun. I think I will enjoy this book.

  5. From the very beginning the book Cleo started to tell her story to Mrs. Couch. I thought it was a random occurrence to be telling a complete stranger a story from your childhood. Mrs. Couch just sat there and listened and never said to stop or walked away. I think the book had an odd beginning but now could make more sense because they might meet again. On the part about Idgie, she was a girl misunderstood and Cleo was there to tell her story to Mrs. Couch I suppose.

  6. This book is a little confusing to me. I think Idgie sounds like a strong and stuborn girl. Mrs. Cleo Threadgoode is a little off her rocker. She just starts talking about the days she was younger to Mrs Couch. At the begining Mrs. Couch was being corteous but she didn't want to listen to this older lady.

  7. I thought it was an interesting start to the book. It really took me off guard of how open she was to all of this stuff. It also impresses on me that she is losing her mind. She is very jumpy is her conversation topics. I don't think she is just a temporary patient at the nursing home.

  8. I think the book is kind of confusing. I think it'll develop into a good story by the end though. It seems like it just jumps into the story with little to no background information. It's hard to follow at first with all the characters. Going only through the first sixteen pages I shouldn't judge too harshly.
